Transforming degraded landscapes in Nigeria through community-driven reforestation and sustainable agriculture.
KIRAR is proud to support the Jigawa Regen Ag Project, a large-scale regenerative agriculture initiative in Northern Nigeria that is already supporting over 30,000 smallholder farmers. With strong on-the-ground leadership from Dr. Adnan Aminu, the project enables farmers to adopt regenerative practices that deliver significant carbon sequestration benefits across an initial 100,000 hectares, with expansion planned to 350,000 hectares over ten years. By combining approaches such as no-till farming, agroforestry, cover cropping, and keyline water management, the project restores soil fertility, improves water retention, and strengthens resilience against climate shocks. Leveraging cutting-edge technology through the RegenFarm platform—which uses satellite imaging, AI modelling, and digital twins—the project ensures transparent monitoring, accurate carbon measurement, and scalable climate solutions, positioning it as a high-integrity candidate for Article 6 alignment.
• Restores 100k ha
• Supports over 30k farmers
• Generates over 3 mln credits

Beyond its environmental contribution, the project delivers major social and economic benefits. Farmers are trained in regenerative methods, supported with improved seeds, and connected to premium markets, helping to raise incomes and strengthen food security. Revenues from carbon credit sales are reinvested into local communities, creating long-term incentives for sustainable land management. Backed by collaborations with the UK and Nigerian governments, and aligning with Nigeria's Paris Agreement commitments, the Jigawa Regen Ag Project demonstrates how innovative land-use solutions can drive climate action, poverty reduction, and rural development at scale.
